DESCRIPTION
It is the summer of 1962, and Jackie Robinson is about to be the first black player inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame. That has a surprising impact on Junior Murphy, a black diner employee who can’t get a promotion, and whose little sister has her own history-making plans for the weekend. When a Midwest minor-leaguer comes to town chasing his idol, a collision of race, family, love, and baseball turns a sleepy New York town upside down.

The LA Weekly raves, If you’ve forgotten the childlike joy and sublime wonderment of seeing magic performed, Albie Selznick’s theatrical show is an enchanting reminder. The accomplished actor-magician puts on a bewildering tour de force that has more “how did he do that” flashes than can be counted! GO!
Backstage says, Smoke and Mirrors is about magic, wonder, and spectacle. You’ll leave feeling spellbound by Selznick’s display, scratching your head and thinking, “How did he do that?”
Created by and starring noted actor Albie Selznick (Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Dexter, etc.) and Magician (a lifetime member of Hollywood’s Magic Castle), Smoke and Mirrors is a semi-autobiographical fantastical coming-of-age story about a boy who uses magic to escape reality and face the world after the death of his father.
Smoke and Mirrors is a poignant yet humorous play packed with magic tricks, elaborate illusions, special effects, improv, audience participation, and spooky Houdini seances. Selznick takes the audience on his healing journey while enlisting the assistance of Trix (a life-sized rabbit), The Oracle (a giant talking orb), and Bessie Houdini, who makes a rather startling appearance!
