How’d you get involved in theatre?
I was 24 years old and in Dental School at the University of Minnesota. In one of our classes, we had to do role playing. We played a Dentist presenting a case to a patient, and we had to play both parts. That was my first acting experience, and I was smitten. A light went on inside of me, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I loved role playing. So I went to New York and enrolled at HB Studio, initially. I was very shy, and I’ll never forget my first improvisational exercise. I felt like I had found a way to speak, a voice I didn’t have. I love acting in the theatre and being in direct communication with an audience, in the moment. We are all sharing in something together. No re-takes.
